St Madoes Stone dates to the eighth century, and the Picts. It’s a class 2 Pictish stone, meaning that it was carved following the introduction of Christianity, and incorporates Christian symbolism. A ring-headed cross dominates the front of the stone, surrounded by biting dogs and lion-like creatures.
