Aug 12, 2022 · Is a Cold IPA an IPL? It’s a reasonable question, but India Pale Lager, aka IPL, is brewed at traditional lager temperatures, which brings an uptick in sulfur compounds. (Of course, not every lager smells eggy, but it’s an off-flavor that can sneak through.)

Aug 12, 2022 · Maybe it would be 'better' to not just keep creating new beer styles (or sub-styles as regards "Cold IPA") but there sure seems to be a lot of momentum in the contemporary craft beer industry to every year add more and more styles to the Brewers Association list.

Mar 2, 2009 · Ale yeast at cooler temps. Lager yeast at cooler temps and temps normal for a Lager ("IPLs"). I really wish consumers/breweries would get off of the whole IPA must beer on the beer label for it to sell thing, as it would be nice to know what yeast is being used in the beer and "IPA" just doesn't work if Lager yeast was used.

Sep 2, 2022 · This is why I suggested earlier that we acknowledge that "IPA" is a distinct thing from "India Pale ale" these days. It has nothing to do with India anymore and inhabits a sphere of the beer world where distinctions between "ale" and "lager" are pretty irrelevant.
