Throughout my first year on the Monetary Policy Committee, I have evaluated data and considered the macroeconomic relationships between consumers, firms, and financial markets, with particular attention to disaggregated data and to inflation expectations.
At the February 2023 meeting, I voted with the majority of the Committee to increase Bank Rate by 50 basis points. The background to this meeting was continuing high global inflation rates, but with tentative signs of a peak.
