MEET THE LEGEND, CARROLL SHELBY. An American automotive designer, racing driver and entrepreneur, Carroll Shelby was best known for his involvement with the AC Cobra and later with Mustang-based performance cars build in partnership with Ford Motor Company.

Shelby proposed his sports car to Ford Motor Company, who liked the idea of offering a sports car that would go head-to-head with the Chevrolet Corvette. Carroll, always the racer, explained his ambition to race Cobras against Corvette in the USA and against Ferrari in Europe.

Ford Motor Company asked Carroll Shelby and his team to consult on the Ford GT in 2004. Two years later, Shelby and Ford had formed a new relationship to once again build high performance vehicles. This program accelerated in 2005 when Carroll helped reenergize the company with a new series of high performance vehicles.

Shelby American, Inc. is an American high performance automobile company founded by driver Carroll Shelby. The Shelby American name has been used by several legally distinct corporations founded by Shelby since his original shop in Venice, California began operation in 1962.
