The United States supports a negotiated settlement' with Russia, President Donald Trump added in a warm letter to the Ukrainian leader.

President Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders at the White House on Monday, an event the U.S. president called "a very good, early step" to possibly resolve the war in Ukraine.

The president called the meetings with both leaders "very successful," despite failing to reach a ceasefire deal.
