According to reports, Shinde was scheduled to attend a Mahayuti leaders meeting to finalise portfolio allocations. He is suffering from a throat infection and fever and did not return to his official residence, Varsha, in Mumbai. Shinde is currently staying in his native village in Satara.

Shinde, who is currently the caretaker CM until a new one is appointed, had said that his party- the Shiv Sena- would support the decisions of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to name the next CM.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place on December 5 at Mumbai's Azad Maidan, as declared by the BJP leaders.
