LANSING, MI -- Standing in front of hundreds of protestors at the Michigan Capitol on Wednesday, Feb. 5, Rep. Laurie Pohutsky, D-Livonia, said she had surgery to become voluntarily sterile out of fear for how President Donald Trump’s administration could limit future reproductive health care access.

Lansing — Michigan Rep. Laurie Pohutsky, a Democrat who revealed she underwent voluntary sterilization because of concerns over contraception access under Republican President Donald Trump, said she's been receiving threats after her comments this week spread across the internet.

The Michigan state representative announced the decision to have the medical procedure during a protest at the Michigan State Capitol.

Michigan state Rep. Laurie Pohutsky told a crowd of protestors at the Michigan state Capitol building earlier this week that she had elective surgery to remove her reproductive organs out of concern about contraception access.

State Representative Laurie Pohutsky revealed she had permanent surgery preventing her from having children. She told FOX 2 the private decision, which was years in the making, was a result of fear looming from the Trump Administration.
