Dell is reorganizing its entire product lineup, retiring iconic brands like XPS, Inspiron, Latitude, and more. All in the name of simplicity. But for a product lineup this large, simplicity can actually be confusing.

Dell has taken pot shots at Apple in its ads before, and the brand is often seen as one of the Cupertino company's biggest rivals on the PC side of things. So it comes as a something of a surprise that Dell's rebranded laptop line up sounds quite so, well, Apple-esque.

It's out with the old, as Dell ushers in a new naming scheme for its wares, with just Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max taking over.

This rework marks a major shakeup for Dell's PC naming schema, which has used the Inspiron, XPS, Latitude, and Precision monikers since the 1990s. Alienware, the brand of gaming-focused PCs Dell acquired in 2006, is exempt from the renaming. Many of the new Dell-branded devices will include neural processing units — chips optimised for artificial intelligence tasks, Terwilliger said in an interview.
