As Cyclone Fengal intensifies over the Bay of Bengal, Chennai braces for prolonged rainfall expected to continue until December 1. The city has already witnessed heavy downpours, disrupting daily life and raising concerns about waterlogging in low-lying areas.

The deep depression in Bay of Bengal that is going to develop into Cyclone Fengal is still some distance away from Chennai. IMD said on November 28 that the depression is 480 km south-southeast of Chennai. From Puducherry, it was 410 km away in the southeast.

Cyclone Fengal brings heavy rain and school closures to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Several districts shut schools, but Chennai remains open. The cyclone is expected to make landfall on November 30. Disaster response teams are deployed.
