Darter arrived in St. Helena on July 25, 1961 to become an associate with Dr. George Wood and Dr. Charles Queary. He still maintains that medical practice on Pine Street.

Saluting Darter with kind remarks were Bonnie Long, retired city manager and current trustee of the St. Helena Library board, who praised Darter for his "wisdom, continuity, common sense and dignity." ...
