Riverside County leaders on Tuesday voted to back a number of measures that aim to protect immigrant residents, despite public opposition on the matter from community members.

Debate erupted at the Riverside County Board of Supervisors meeting over a resolution to evaluate how data on undocumented immigrants and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program is collected.

The measures were adopted over objections from the Sheriff’s Department and others who worried the board was trying to create a “sanctuary county.”
