Nov. 10, 2011 -- The Nintendo DS is still the bestselling handheld gaming system of all time, so this year's follow-up, the Nintendo 3DS, has a lot to live up to.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has confirmed that the company is working on an app to allow Wii U and 3DS owners to use Mii avatars and the Miiverse social network on their smartphones.
The Nintendo 3DS XL was released on August 19 in North America ($199.99) and will debut August 23 in Australia (A$249.95). It is available in Japan (18,900 yen) and Europe (199.99 euros).
And on a broader level, the 3DS proves that with some clever development, 3D apps can survive and even become fun and useful. I'm looking forward to what Nintendo and others come with once the 3DS ...
