Unfortunately, Irish potato candy has no connection to Ireland. The candies were first made nearly 100 years ago in Philadelphia, and have obviously become associated with St. Patrick's Day.

Beginning next Wednesday, most Irish consumers will get back change rounded to the nearest five cents. Eventually, Irish officials hope, those petty 1- and 2-cent coins won’t be needed.
