The shopper, "who happened to be an anthropologist, noticed the skull in the Halloween section and recognized it to be human," the sheriff's office reported on its Facebook page.

Detectives said the skull, which had been found in a storage unit purchased by the thrift store owner years prior, appeared to be human. The case is not considered suspicious.
