Hedgehog houses provide a safe, cosy place for hedgehogs to sleep or hibernate. In autumn, hedgehogs collect dried leaves, moss and other plant matter to line their cosy winter bed for hibernation.
Common hibernation spots for hedgehogs include compost heaps, piles of logs and leaves, under hedges, specially designed hedgehog houses, and tree cavities, while dormice may choose roof spaces.
Reduce insecticide use, create log piles or hedgehog houses they can use for shelter, and leave gaps in fences to let them come and go. You can also help with hedgehog population monitoring.
