The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration fired 4% of its workforce earlier this month, an individual with knowledge told Business Insider.
The agency said it is committed to enforcing federal vehicle safety regulations across all manufacturers, including Tesla.
The agency is losing almost half of the team that oversees autonomous vehicle safety, among dozens of other key personnel.
