Schools in at least 35 cities or counties across Virginia have been targeted in social media or direct threats since the beginning of the school year, as a wave of school threats washes over the country.

Virginia Beach City Schools Superintendent, Donald E. Robertson Jr. sent a message to families Wednesday addressing social media threats.

A student reported a concerning post to school leadership, according to a statement sent to families Wednesday morning.

A social media post threatening violence at school is being circulated around the country, causing disruptions at countless campuses. On Wednesday, Sept. 18, class was interrupted at Covington High School when police began investigating social media posts threatening violence on campus.
