With Thanksgiving and the formal launch of the holiday shopping season, Americans will again be consumed with the annual trifecta of turkey, travel and transactions — lots of them.

Lowes: Lowes will be closed on Thanksgiving, but will open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday. Ace Hardware: Each store is independently owned, but a majority of the stores will be closed on Thanksgiving. Costco: Costco will be closed on Thanksgiving, but reopen on Friday at 9 a.m.

As if Thanksgiving and Black Friday couldn’t be exciting enough, it appears some solar activity could bring the northern lights to part of the U.S. to round out the holiday week. NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) issued a geomagnetic storm watch for the next two days due to a filament eruption spotted on the Sun late Monday.
