Flood warnings are still in place across England and Wales following Storm Bert - as fresh weather warnings were issued with more heavy rain forecast. A severe "danger to life" flood warning remains for the River Nene in Northamptonshire after a caravan park was submerged for the third time this year.

Torrential rain doused most of the country, stymying travel and leading to flooding, landslides, fallen trees and power outages.

While the Met Office said it was "committed to learning the lessons" the forecasting and meteorological body also pointed out that rainfall totals were in line with its predictions and warnings.

More rain is due to fall on Tuesday and Wednesday in southern England and south Wales, where flooding and high winds from Storm Bert have caused major disruption to homes, roads and rail networks.

Heavy weekend rain and strong winds brought in by Storm Bert caused widespread flooding and travel disruptions across Britain and Ireland, and killed at least three people in England and Wales.

Storm Bert left a trail of disruption across the UK, with hundreds of flood warnings in place for Wales and the west of England.

More flooding is “likely” this week after Storm Bert brought torrential rain over the weekend, the Environment Secretary said. Steve Reed said its impacts “should be less severe” than they were on Sunday and Monday morning.
