Many homes have been passed down for decades from parents to their children, but now the neighborhoods face a new challenge.

Many residents fled the Altadena and Pasadena area due to the blaze that has consumed more than 10,000 acres with zero containment, according to Lisa Derderian, a city of Pasadena’s information officer. More than 800 people were at the evacuation center, Red Cross volunteers said Wednesday morning.

The Eaton Fire has burned more than 10,000 acres in northeast Los Angeles County, forcing about 33,000 residents to flee. It has torched homes and burned houses of worship in the communities of Altadena and Pasadena and is responsible for multiple deaths.

Footage showed the duchess, wearing a blue "LA" baseball cap, hugging and consoling people who had fled their homes.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on Friday made a surprise visit to a meal distribution center set up for people affected by the wildfires that have devastated Los Angeles.

Many of those people have pets that cannot go with them to evacuation centers or hotels. As we found, shelters like the Pasadena Humane Society have taken in hundreds of pets and are preparing for even more.

San Diego Humane Society shelters were already overcrowded, but when the Pasadena Humane Society called for help evacuating animals form the Eaton wildfire, it stepped up. Wednesday night, two teams from San Diego went to the Remy Chatain Animal Care Center & Shelter to pick up 11 dogs.

On Wednesday afternoon, four staff members from the San Diego Humane Society departed for Pasadena, where they will assist in the evacuation of pets affected by the devastating fires in the Los Angeles area.
