A BJP leader on Sunday claimed that Devendra Fadnavis has been finalised by the party for the post of Maharashtra chief minister, however, an official statement on the same is awaited.

Speculation has also emerged that Shinde’s son, Shrikant Shinde, might be appointed as one of the Deputy Chief Ministers, with the Shiv Sena reportedly eyeing the Home portfolio.

More than a week after the Mahayuti won a landslide majority in Maharashtra polls, the new government is yet to be sworn in.

"The name of Devendra Fadnavis has been finalised as the new chief minister of Maharashtra. The meeting to elect the new BJP legislature party meeting will be held on either December 2 or 3," a senior BJP leader told PTI.

Earlier, outgoing CM Eknath Shinde stated that he would support the BJP’s decision to pick the new chief minister.
