A video of an IndiGo plane struggling to land in Chennai ahead of Cyclone Fengal's landfall has gone viral. The plane is seen trying to land amid heavy turbulence as the cyclone led to heavy rain and strong winds in the city yesterday.

Following Cyclone Fengal making landfall in Puducherry on Saturday, intense weather conditions at Chennai International Airport on Sunday led to dramatic scenes as flights struggled to land amid strong crosswinds and poor visibility.

After the landfall, the Cyclone is forecasted to move west-southwestwards and gradually weaken into a deep depression within the next six hours.

Cyclone Fengal made landfall as it crossed the Tamil Nadu coast between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram. The cyclone triggered heavy rainfall and strong winds over coastal districts in north Tamil Nadu, flooding low-lying areas and disrupting flights and train services in Chennai.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a red alert for Sunday, forecasting rainfall over Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, and Puducherry.

At least three people were killed in electrocutions in different rain-related incidents in Chennai on Saturday, according to officials.

Chennai and its surrounding regions, including Puducherry, faced steady rains and gusty winds as Cyclone Fengal made landfall, disrupting public transport and forcing authorities to evacuate residents from vulnerable areas.
