HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A tsunami watch has been canceled for Hawaii following a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that occurred off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia.

A major earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 initially triggered a tsunami warning for the southern Alaska Peninsula. It was later downgraded to an advisory.

A tsunami watch was issued for Hawaii about 15 mintues after the strongest quake. Warnings were issued for Russia's Kuril Islands. All were canceled.
