All lanes of Interstate 85 Southbound in Macon County are closed due to a major crash, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said “several” tractor-trailers were stuck along both the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 85 through Macon and Lee counties Wednesday afternoon.
In Opelika, the Alabama National Guard and heavy-duty wreckers were working to clear semi-trucks stuck along I-85 between exit 58 and exit 64.
ALEA troopers were able to give the go-ahead for motorists to get back onto state and federal roads in the Wiregrass counties.
During Alabama's last major weather event, ALEA said state troopers responded to 80 traffic crashes in which weather conditions were a factor.
