Patrick Mahomes and company were able to outlast Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at Arrowhead in the AFC championship, holding on to win 32–29. The matchup was just the latest in a series of thrilling showdowns that Mahomes and Allen have already had in their careers.
After a questionable turnover on downs late in the game, the Chiefs drew up a perfect play for Mahomes in which the Kansas City quarterback took it himself into the end zone—with some impressive blocking help from Travis Kelce—for a 10-yard rushing touchdown, giving his team a 29-22 lead.
The Chiefs were driving, at the Buffalo 23, on the doorstep of possibly taking a 14-3 lead. Alas, Patrick Mahomes fumbled while pulling the ball back from running back Isiah Pacheco’s belly. Defensive lineman Ed Oliver recovered for the Bills at the Buffalo 28.
Patrick Mahomes threw for 245 yards and a touchdown and ran through the Buffalo defense for two more scores to lead Kansas City to a 32-29 victory.
