Louisiana, Ohio, Kansas and West Virginia sued to block illegal immigrants from being counted when apportioning congressional seats and electoral votes.

A record-setting snowstorm along the Gulf Coast has Louisiana officials worried people unaccustomed to the cold might overreact in ways that could get them killed. Hence, a strange warning was issued during the storm: Don’t invite alligators, bears and other wildlife into your home.

It happened around 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, in St. John the Baptist Parish and the girl’s mother pulled to the side of the road before passing out, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The parish is about a 30-mile drive northwest from New Orleans.
