With a little over two weeks remaining until Opening Day, Baseball America has unveiled their preseason rankings. The Tennessee Volunteers were ranked No. 3 heading into the new season by the publication – the highest preseason ranking thus far for the program.

Following just one season as a member of the Duke football program, Star Thomas officially entered the transfer portal in late December, citing "personal reasons" swaying a difficult decision to bolt. A few weeks later, the 6-foot, 210-pound running back from Louisiana is now heading to the SEC.

Duke had already won at Wake Forest to extend its winning streak to 13 games, and now Auburn was down four points to Tennessee in the final two minutes at home, at which point Saturday looked like it might deliver a development that would create change at the top of the Top 25 And 1.

Star Thomas is a veteran running back and an all-purpose producer with more than 2,500 yards from scrimmage and 22 TDs in his career.

Transfer running back Star Thomas announced his commitment to the Vols. “Rocky Top! Let’s do it,” Thomas announced on X. The 6-foot, 210-pound running back recorded 871 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 213 attempts in 2024 at Duke. He also totaled 20 receptions for 153 yards and one touchdown.

Johni Broome is back, and Auburn is still on top of the SEC. The Tigers picked up their 11th straight win on Saturday night when they beat Tennessee 53-51. It marked Broome’s first game back from an ankle injury. He had a team-high 16 points and 13 rebounds off the bench in the win, which marked the lowest point total the Tigers have had all year.

The Tennessee basketball team fell just short in one of the best games of this college basketball season, dropping a true road game against No. 1-ranked Auburn in a 53-51 rock fight. Tennessee had a chance to win it at the end, but point guard Zakai Zeigler's game-tying 3-pointer came up short.

Thomas ran for 871 yards and seven touchdowns this season with the Blue Devils. He played two seasons at New Mexico State before transferring to Duke.

Texas Tech made its Top 25 season debut at No. 22 after beating Cincinnati and Oklahoma State to run its Big 12 winning streak to four games. Vanderbilt entered the poll at No. 24 for the first time since Dec. 7, 2015, as the women’s team also cracked the poll this week for the first time since 2014.
