Former Belfast IRA man Joe Lynskey killed by IRA over suspicion he tried to have love rival murdered
The decision to kill Lynskey followed an internal IRA investigation into an attempt on the life of another member, which at first was thought to be the work of the official IRA. This led to an attack by the provisionals in Belfast during which a member or supporter of the officials was killed, and the near eruption of an all-out feud.

Joe Lynskey is one of four people 'disappeared' during The Troubles in Northern Ireland whose remains have yet to be located. The ICLVR has exhumed a grave at Annyalla Cemetery in Co Monaghan on the foot of "information concerning suspicious historic activity during the 1970s" there.

Monaghan grave exhumed in search for Disappeared victim Joe Lynskey
A grave in Co Monaghan has been exhumed by experts searching for a Disappeared victim of the Northern Ireland Troubles Joe Lynskey. The Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains (ICLVR) said a formal process would be undertaken to establish the identity of all the remains found in the grave in the village of Annyalla.
