The Israeli military says its aircraft struck Hezbollah weapons smuggling sites along Syria’s border with Lebanon.

Israel on Thursday carried out its first airstrike on Lebanon since a truce with Hezbollah announced this week, saying it targeted the militant group's activity at a rocket storage facility in southern Lebanon that breached the ceasefire.

The ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel brokered by the United States and France was characterized by President Biden as an attempt to deliver a "permanent cessation of hostilities."

The bursts of violence — with no reports of serious casualties — reflected the uneasy nature of the ceasefire that otherwise appeared to hold as Lebanese troops began to deploy in parts of southern Lebanon.

Even after a tenuous Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire took hold this week, the mood among residents of northern Israel is far from celebratory.
