But as journalist Raymond Wong discovered, you can use a SIM card push pin to release the cable. Surprisingly, the released cable has a lightning connector, but in an oversized avatar.

Since the cable has a Lightning-like connector, it has to be symmetrically designed. You won't have to think about how to put it back in, and whether orientation matters.
