Plans for a third film, known only as Sherlock Holmes 3, were announced as early as 2011. Downey and Law supposedly reprise their roles, while Dexter Fletcher is slated to replace Ritchie as director.

Sherlock Holmes fans are being promised a most authentic depiction of the fictional detective, with the restoration of a century-old silent film series chronicling the London sleuth’s adventures.

A team of restoration experts are reviving film strips from a silent version of Sherlock Holmes. "Silent Sherlock: Three Classic Cases" has way more footage than a modern Hollywood movie.
