The Phoenix Police Department has not had a permanent police chief since Jeri Williams retired in the summer of 2022.
Phoenix police Chief Michael Sullivan was brought in to lead the department in September 2022 as it dealt with the probe. Sullivan will remain at the helm of the department until August 2025.
A national search is underway to find Phoenix’s next police chief. The city expects to have three finalists who will take questions from the community during a public forum in March.
“They gave us a chance to honor a hero, Matthew Haney, who sacrificed himself several months ago and was shot in the line of duty,” Interim Phoenix Police Chief Michael Sullivan said.
