A REAL ID is a state-issued driver’s license, permit or ID card that meets federal security standards, according to a press release from the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The Oregon REAL ID costs $30. That fee comes in addition to the regular costs for an original, renewal or replacement of a standard driver license, permit or identification card.

Congress passed the REAL ID Act in 2005 following 9/11 to create a national minimum requirement for state driver’s licenses and ID cards. The official deadline is May 7, 2025.
