Now there's at least a solution on the way, which has been teased by what is thought to be an ASUS ROG staffer using an ASUS Z690-based motherboard with the new DDR5 to DDR4 memory converter card.
ASUS will offer DDR4 and DDR5 versions of its Prime motherboards, which will be equipped with the Intel Z690 chipset. This is visible in images that have been shared on the internet.
DDR5 is a 32-bit per channel solution, whereas DDR4 is 64-bit per channel. DDR5 also handles its own power management with an integrated IC, while the motherboard does the same for DDR4.
As for the list of registered ASUS Z690 motherboards EEC, what's interesting to note is that several of the models contain a "D4" designation. This is presumably in reference to DDR4 memory support.
Meanwhile, Z390 motherboards have at most, four DIMM slots so this required 32GB DDR4 modules. ASUS has been working with G.SKILL in bringing these “Double-Capacity” DDR4 to the market.
We can't tell from the names if any of these models have both DDR5 and DDR4 slots, but we can expect MSI and ASRock to come up with similar arrangements. ASUS Z690 motherboards listed give you a ...
