Microsoft closed on its GitHub acquisition late last year. That deal, which was initially announced in June, drew barbs from the open source community that was suspicious of Microsoft’s intentions.

In 2018, in a move to solidify its commitment to developers, Microsoft shelled out $7.5 billion to snag GitHub, the popular code-sharing site and staple of the developer community.

With Nadella at the helm, Microsoft also bought professional networking site LinkedIn for $26.2 billion in 2016 and code hosting platform GitHub for $7.5 billion in 2018.
