Google Contacts gets a Material 3 Expressive redesign with a card-style UI and bold icons, rolling out now via stable update.

Google's phone app is getting a design update on Android smartphones based on the new Material 3 Expressive design language.

With the new design, suggested websites that appear when you start typing are more widely spaced, another Material Design characteristic. First published July 22, 8:55 a.m. PT.

All the general New Material Design motifs are here: everything is white and round, and there's a bit more whitespace in things like the tab bar and autocomplete box.

The account profile or avatar icon is now located in the toolbar just to the right of the address bar. The tabs in the new Chrome look, right, are rounder than the current design in Chrome 66, left.

One example sees Chrome tabs always maintaining their original width rather than be squeezed to allow for page title readability. Material Design is nearing its four-year anniversary in 2018.
