The Chevy 454 short-block option, priced at $5,481.69, provides the same four-bolt main cast-iron engine block and rotating assembly as the $8,971.76 454HO complete crate engine option.
The Stock 454 delivered 522.5 lb-ft of torque at 4,750 rpm and 558.6 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. This means that the 454 outperformed the 383 in both horsepower and torque.
Another significant difference for this 454 H.O. engine is that it employs a 1053-forged-steel crankshaft instead of the production nodular-iron piece.
