A famous Andy Warhol portrait of Marilyn Monroe could become the most expensive 20th-century artwork ever purchased, with auction bids expected "in the region of" $200 million.

Among the best-known is “Marilyn Diptych,” owned by British gallery group Tate, which saw Warhol print a grid of 50 portraits across two canvases.

The painting is based on an image of a screen still from Monroe’s 1953 film Niagara. Warhol spoke of the art technique used to create the print to Popism in 1980, as reported by MOMA.
