Vito the pug was named “best in show” at the 2024 National Dog Show, becoming the first of his breed to win the title at the annual Thanksgiving Day canine competition.

Vito, the No. 1 pug in the country, also won best of his breed at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show before strutting his stuff to emerge victorious at the Kennel Club of Philadelphia ’s dog show. The Pennsylvania competition happened last week and was telecast after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC, as it has been for 23 years.

Vito, a pug from Chapel Hill, N.C., beat out more than 1,900 dogs representing more than 200 breeds and varieties that competed in this year's event.

The 2-year-old Vito sashayed away with the top title, beating out as many as 2,000 other pups at the beloved annual event hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia and presented by Purina.

For the first time in two decades, a pug has won the prestigious title, according to NBC News' Rob Wile. Vito previously claimed Best of Breed at this year's Westminster Dog Show and at the AKC National Show in 2023, racking up 25 total Best in Shows despite being just under three years old.
