A previously undisclosed email and new documents show the Project Nimbus deal isn’t covered by Google’s general terms of service.

The tech giant, which has defended the deal to employees who oppose supplying Israel’s military with technology, feared the project might damage its reputation.

The contract, called Project Nimbus, has been a flashpoint sparking protests by employees. Google lawyers and consultants apparently had concerns, too.

Google went ahead with its $1.2 billion contract with the Israeli government despite internal concerns over potential human rights violations.
