Play has started in the Australian Open final between defending champion Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. It's the first men’s final between the players ranked No. 1 and No. 2 at Melbourne park since Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal in 2019.

The last player to beat Sinner at either the Australian Open or US Open was Alexander Zverev, after the German won a five-setter at Flushing Meadows in 2023. Zverev has won four of the six matches he has played against Sinner. “Very tough match,” the Italian said after beating Ben Shelton in the semi-finals.
