A Spirit Airlines flight was hit by gunfire while trying to land in Haiti, the airline and federal officials said Monday. The flight was en route from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Haiti's capital of Port-au-Prince when it had to be diverted to Santiago in the Dominican Republic, Spirit told Newsweek.

FAA Bars US Airlines From Haiti After Gunfire Hits Three Planes
The Federal Aviation Administration said on Tuesday it will bar U.S. airlines from operating in Haiti for 30 days after three commercial jetliners were struck by gunfire on Monday. The FBI said separately it was investigating the incidents and working with law enforcement partners.
