The Detroit Free Press reported that a tank used for storing an oil and brine solution exploded at General Motors’ Milford Proving Ground in Michigan. The incident reportedly damaged two nearby homes but did not cause any injuries.

A tank that stored oil at GM Proving Ground exploded early Tuesday. The blast was felt from up to 6 miles away, bringing two dozen fire trucks.

General Motors Co. and TWG Global said Monday they’ve reached a tentative agreement where GM will have an 11 th team in the global Formula One racing series starting in 2026. The new F1 team will be branded as Cadillac. It would be the first new F1 team since 2016. Each F1 team has two racing cars.

Formula One announced Monday that “an agreement in principle” has been reached “with General Motors to support bringing GM/Cadillac” to the grid as the sport’s 11th team in 2026.

After a very public failed attempt by Michael Andretti to bring another American team to Formula 1, General Motors has fought through the bureaucracy and politics to join the grid as a works team in 2026. The announcement came this morning after the series just wrapped up the Las Vegas Grand Prix over the weekend.
