DETROIT – There’s a three-hour window when you’re most likely to see heavy snow Wednesday in Metro Detroit. Light snow flurries began Wednesday morning in Southeast Michigan and the Thumb, but the heaviest bands of snow are expected much later in the day.

Periods of heavy snow - called snow squalls - are expected to lead to dangerous, icy roads Wednesday night in Southeast Michigan.

As Metro Detroit gears up for another round of winter weather, road crews are at work treating roads ahead of expected icy conditions.

Metro Detroit is in for some snow over the next 24 hours, but how much should we expect and when will it be the strongest?

A clipper system arrives late today with strong south winds, scattered snow showers, and minor travel impacts. Treacherous travel becomes likely overnight into Thursday morning with steadier, heavier snow and wind gusts in excess of 40+ mph.
